Aims and Ethos

The aims of Lansbury Bridge School & Sports College are:

To become a Centre of Excellence characterised by:

  • Excellence of provision for those pupils who receive their education on the site of the school - a safe, secure and caring environment where expectations and achievements are high, and children and young people realise their full potential in all areas of their development: academic, physical, emotional, spiritual, moral, social and independence.
  • A continuous process of developing ways to unlock each child's potential and enable learning.
  • The provision of training, advice, guidance and support, based on proven and effective methods, to colleagues in mainstream schools to support them in building their capacity to meet the needs of children with an increasingly broad range of additional needs.
  • The use of PE, sport and physical activity to improve the health, behaviour, confidence and learning of the whole school community.

The school holds the following awards: Basic Skills Quality Mark (Primary and Secondary), National Healthy Schools Status, Careers and Resources Quality Marks, Special Schools Innovation Award, International School Award, Activemark and Sportsmark.

Lansbury Bridge School & Sports College has been designed and resourced to meet the needs of children with complex learning difficulties. The range of needs include children with autistic spectrum disorders, physical disabilities, medical difficulties, speech language and communication difficulties, sensory impairment, and a broad range of learning difficulties (mild to severe). However, the school has been designed to be a flexible resource that is able to respond to new areas of need in the future. It is expected that the needs of the school population will become increasingly complex over time.

The school has a very significant outreach function helping mainstream primary and secondary schools to increase their capacity for meeting the needs of children with an increasingly wide range of additional needs.

The main part of the school is designed around a quadrangle with a combination of teaching areas with a generic design, high specification classrooms, and specialist teaching areas such as design & technology, science and ICT. There is accommodation for therapy services (including a hydrotherapy pool) and outreach services - each with access independent from the main school. The school also has a multi-sensory rand soft play area.

The school has been a designated Specialist Sports College since September 2006. The school has excellent sporting facilities including a swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool and 4 badminton court sports hall. Our intention in becoming a Specialist Sports College is to maximise the use of our excellent resources to the benefit of the children and young people attending Lansbury Bridge School & Sports College and to our wider school community.
